The Tigers Freshmen opened their season against the Olentangy Berlin Bears this Saturday. Massillon’s offense got the scoring started early; as a long run from Ezekiel Mealy set up a rushing touchdown from Rasmus Haines, who ran in the successful two point conversion to put the Tigers up 8-0. The Tigers defense stopped the Bears attack on their first drive, capped off with a sack by Andrew Holland. On the Tigers next possession they were forced to punt despite a big catch by George Rivera. The Bears answered the Tigers with a touchdown on their drive but failed the two-point conversion, putting the score at 8-6.
In the second quarter, the Bears would score again to take a 12-8 lead (after another failed two-point attempt), but the Tigers responded with another Rasmus Haines touchdown run with just seconds remaining in the half.
The Tigers came out roaring in the second half, adding to their lead with a DeVaughn Williams rushing touchdown. A stop by the Tigers D led to a long touchdown run by none other than DeVaughn Williams. A Noah Garner sack near the end of the third quarter forced a Bears punt, and Williams added to his excellent game with yet another touchdown. When the clock hit 0:00, the score stood 32-12 in favor of the Tigers.
Coach’s Comment…
Coach Corsale: “We needed to establish our physicality. We have a big, physical line and once we establish that we do what we want.”
