Massillon Alum Evan Berbari Returns to TigerTown as Offensive Coordinator

The last time Evan Berbari donned a Massillon uniform was at Akron’s Infocision Field on November 15th, 2013. The Tigers fell to 12-0 Medina Highland that night in the second round of the playoffs. Berbari now returns in much brighter times in TigerTown to head up the Tigers’ young offense.

Evan Berbari is a born and raised Massillon Tiger. He wore #57 for the Tigers while playing varsity ball at OL/DL from 2011-2013. While continuing his education at Walsh University, Berbari was an assistant at St. Thomas Aquinas. For the 2016-17 seasons, he came back home and coached for Massillon’s freshman team. His latest and longest coaching stint came with Ashland University. Berbari was with the Eagles from 2019 to last season. He started out as a grad assistant on defense before moving to offense, where he coached wide receivers and was Director of Football Operations. He was also HC of the Junior Varsity team. Berbari coached for an Ashland team that was led by former Massillon Head Coach and Tiger Hall of Famer Lee Owens. Coach Owens put the Eagles in a great position in his tenure there, making the NCAA DII playoffs multiple times, including one season (2022) with Berbari on the staff. Berbari coached two stellar receivers that year– Logan Bolin (Ashland’s all-time receiving leader) and Garrett Turnbaugh, who were both All-GMAC. The Eagles went 9-3 in 2023 and 9-4 last season– they stunned #6 Charleston (WV) in the first round of the DII playoffs before narrowly falling to #20 California (PA). Berbari will join a Tiger staff filled with Massillon alumni– he joins Edwin Glick (OLB), J.P. Simon (DL), Jason Jarvis (CB), Travis McGuire (RB), Joe Studer (DL), Ty Keirns (OL), Bo Grunder (S), and Dan Studer (S&C) as Tigers alums turned coaches.
