St. Edward Junior Varsity Takes Down Massillon

The Tigers (3-1-1) lost for the first time this season, falling to St. Edward in the second matchup between the two teams this season.

The Tigers had the ball first and punted. St. Ed’s drove down the field with a strong run game and capped off their drive with a touchdown pass. Massillon put together a drive but missed a long field goal. The Eagles moved the ball into Tigers’ territory in a drive that rolled into the second quarter, but Massillon’s defense forced a turnover on downs. A miscue on a handoff resulted in a fumble for the Tigers, and St. Edward scored a touchdown to go up 14-0. Tigers’ quarterback Eli Moore went down with a serious injury, and the game was delayed.
The Tigers turned the ball over on downs, but Massillon’s Micah Williams intercepted a St. Edward pass. At half, the Tigers trailed 14-0.

In the second half, St. Ed’s and Massillon exchanged four punts. On a fifth punt (this one by the Eagles), Massillon’s Bishop Cupp smashed through the line and blocked the punt. The ball rolled through the back of the end zone, making the score 14-2. Early in the fourth quarter, St. Ed’s scored another touchdown to increase their lead. Massillon answered with a drive deep into Eagles’ territory— set up by a Manny Patterson to Braylon Gamble pass. Bishop Cupp drove his way into the end zone for the Tigers’ first touchdown of the game, and Savior Owens threw a pop pass to Van Hawkins for a two-point conversion. The Tiger defense stopped St. Ed’s and gave Massillon an opportunity, but the Tigers had a couple of turnovers and were unable to score. The final: St. Edward 21 – Massillon 10.
