Coach’s Corner– a Q & A with new Massillon OLB Coach Edwin Glick

New Tiger OLB Coach Edwin Glick. Thanks to Coach Glick for the photo.

I sat down today with Massillon’s newest addition to their coaching staff– Edwin Glick. A 2017 grad of WHS, Glick played defensive tackle for the Tigers and Coach Nate Moore. He will now take on the mantle of OLB coach, filling the slot held by longtime Tiger coach Dave Weber, who retired after last season. Coach Glick will also aid RB Coach and Tiger legend Travis McGuire as assistant college recruiting director. You can find their college recruiting work in the links below.

Interview

Q: What was your career path after graduating from WHS?

A: “After I graduated from WHS, I played college football for Mt. Sacramento, and after a short stint there I took my first job as a coach here in Massillon. I was here for one year (2019) as the freshmen team’s OL/DL coach. I then took a varsity job at St. Thomas Aquinas under Coach Mike Cook (now the OC at GlenOak), and after a year I was at the University of Akron as a DL assistant. My first OLB job was at Walsh University, where I had a first-team all G-MAC OLB–Steven Baugh. I was at Canton McKinley for two years as Director of College Recruiting and OLBs. This year the position came open here– that’s what I’ve been building my resume for… to end up here. That’s why I ventured out to do some things on my own– to ultimately end up coming back home and coaching.”

Q: What will you be doing with the College Recruiting program?

A: “I’ll be assisting Travis McGuire to do whatever we can to get our guys to college and help them play at the next level, whether that be in DI, DII, DIII, NAIA, or even JUCO. We will help our kids put highlight tapes together and make sure they are on top of their grades so they can pass Clearinghouse. Film speaks for itself– if you’re good enough you are going to go wherever you deserve to go. We will teach these guys little nuggets of things that will help them become the best versions of themselves so that they can be recruited at the highest level.”

Q: How does it feel to be back with the Tigers?

A: “It is an amazing feeling. I’m super excited to be home. Like I’ve said, everything I have done in the past six or seven years has been done with the goal to come back home. I’m excited to be coaching under Coach Moore, who coached me in high school. I’m going to put my head down and go to work. I’m going to be the best version that I can be and help these guys be the best versions of themselves as I’ve done everywhere else.”

Q: With the Tigers’ D and the OLB room this year, what is your outlook for the players you will be coaching?

A: “We have a returning guy in R’Celle Hill, and then we have a young guy who’s really come on in Anthony Hoover. My group is fairly young, but we’re looking to go to work early. They are disciplined and ready to learn and work. These young guys are hungry to get out on the field and earn their spot. My end goal is to teach my guys to be the best men they can be, whether that’s a brother, uncle, or cousin, and in the future a husband and a father. It’s amazing to coach football here, but I’m excited to coach these guys how to be men, and the be the best men that they can be.”
