
Massillon Wrestlers Compete in State Championships
Chris Fair (285) and Frankie Salvino (190) both competed in the first round of the state championship wrestling tournament (championship preliminaries) today in Ohio State’s Schottenstein Center. Fair quickly pinned Walnut Hills’ Donovan Gayle in the first period to win and advance to tomorrow’s quarterfinals. He will face Mount Vernon’s Alex Taylor (37-1). Frankie Salvino fell to Springboro’s Matt Kowalski in the first period of his preliminary. Salvino was able to win 12-1 over Olentangy Orange’s Jacob Slack in the third place bracket (Consolations Round 1) to stay alive in the hunt for a podium spot.
Indoor Track Tigers to Play for State Titles
The Tigers will send several athletes to compete at Spire Academy in Geneva for the Indoor Track and Field State Championships. Tomorrow’s state competitions will feature Massillon’s Bella Haines (Girl’s Weighted Throw), Alayna Mendenhall (Girl’s Seated Shot), Ja’Meir Gamble (Boy’s 60m), Deontay Malone (Boy’s 60m), Lennox Lemon (Boy’s Long Jump), Chayce White (Boy’s Long Jump), Lo’Quan Young (Boy’s High Jump). Results will be in tomorrow’s TigerTown Daily.
