The Knights beat the Tigers 35-8 on Thursday night. Hoban used many running back sweeps to move down the field and held the Tigers to one score to secure a solid victory.
Massillon’s defense was able to force a fumble that was recovered by Iziaha Johnson on the opening drive. The Tigers were able to convert one 4th down on offense but could not convert a second 4th down play and turned the ball over on downs. Hoban scored to take a 7-0 lead early in the second quarter. Massillon moved the ball on runs by DeVaughn Williams and Derrick Gordon but turned the ball over on an interception. Hoban’s running backs dragged defenders down the field for another score. The Tigers were unable to move the ball, and Hoban scored again to go up 21-0. Massillon moved the ball again on a big Joseph Pierce catch but were unable to score before the half.
The Tigers punted on the opening drive of the second half. In a drive that rolled into the fourth quarter, Hoban put another score on the board. The teams exchanged punts, and the Tigers were able to break up the shutout on a Derrick Gordon touchdown run and two-point conversion. The final: Hoban 35 – Massillon 8.
Massillon will take on Warren Harding at home next Thursday. Kickoff will be at 6 PM.
