The Tigers fell once again to the St. Edwards’ Eagles Thursday evening. The Eagles scored twice late in the first half en route to a 28-6 victory.
Both Massillon and St. Edwards’ defenses stood strong through most of the first half. The Tigers forced a punt after a three-and-out on the first drive of the game. Massillon turned the ball over on downs but stopped St. Ed’s deep in Tiger territory after a tackle-for-loss by George Rivera and DeVaughn Williams. The Tigers were forced to punt on a drive that rolled into the second quarter. On the other side of the ball, Massillon once again stopped St. Ed’s; two sacks (Wyatt Porter and Aamir Jones) helped snuff out the Eagles’ drive. Things went downhill for the Tigers starting on their next offensive possession. St. Ed’s forced Massillon to bring out their punt team after a three-and-out. An errant snap on the punt set the Eagles up at the Tiger 9-yard line. St. Ed’s scored on the next play, putting them up 7-0. The Tigers then threw an interception that St. Ed’s took all the way for a score. At halftime, the score stood: St. Edwards 14 – Tigers 0.
The Tigers were unable to score on the opening drive of the third quarter despite a big gain by George Rivera on a Koletin Hodges’ pass. On the following drive St. Ed’s added another score on a long pass, making the score 21-0. The Tigers punted again, and the Eagles scored on a run play early in the fourth quarter. Massillon drove down the field on their next offensive possession. Iziaha Johnson had a big first down catch, and DeVaughn Williams set the Tigers up in the red zone. Koletin Hodges then tossed a touchdown pass to Aamir Jones, breaking up the shutout. The two-point conversion attempt failed, leaving the score 28-6. The Tigers got a stop on defense but threw an interception on a deflected ball. The Eagles took a knee and took home a 28-6 victory.
