Massillon’s JV battled the Glenville Tarblooders Saturday morning in the first of two matchups between the teams this season.
Glenville started the day with the ball on their own 35 yard line. The Tigers’ defense stood strong and forced a punt after a R’Celle Hill sack. Massillon would capitalize after a shanked punt and get on the board first with a Gregory Corsale field goal. The Tarblooders punted on their next possession, but the Tigers fumbled the ball back to Glenville. Massillon’s D stood strong again, forcing another punt. Tigers’ quarterback Manny Patterson led the Tigers down the field, tossing a long touchdown pass to Richard Harris Jr. to put the Tigers up 10-0 at the end of the first quarter. Following a Tarblooders’ punt, Massillon would throw an interception. Glenville drove deep into Massillon territory, but Chayce White intercepted a Tarblooders’ pass and took it back into the red zone. The Tigers would score again on Corsale’s second field goal of the day. Briar Mattox recovered a Glenville fumble on the next drive, but the Tigers were unable to capitalize, and the score remained 13-0 at the half.
Glenville would start the second half quickly. After forcing a Massillon punt, they scored a touchdown on a pass. The Tarblooders picked off a Tiger pass and drove down the field, scoring again to take a 14-13 lead. After a delay that resulted in a Glenville ejection, the Tigers were forced to punt once again. Glenville’s returner raced down the field, taking the kick back for a touchdown. The Tigers were able to stop a two-point conversation attempt and kept the Tarblooders’ lead at 20-13. After a Savior Owens first down run, Manny Patterson tossed a long touchdown pass to Harris Jr., the duo’s second scoring connection of the game. With the game tied at 20 late in the fourth quarter, Glenville put together a drive deep into Tigers’ territory. The Massillon defense put together a huge stand, stopping Glenville at the 9-yard line. Massillon was unable to score before the clock ran out, and the game ended in a 20-20 tie.
