Massillon Boys Stun McKinley to Break 8-Year Losing Streak

The Tigers (8-3) had not beaten the Canton McKinley boys basketball team (11-2) in 8 years, but that changed tonight. The Tigers played an excellent game to take McKinley down on their own court. The game was back-and-forth at points; McKinley’s largest lead was 6 and the Tigers’ was 12. Chris Knight made a key three-point shot late in the first half and nailed a second one late in the fourth quarter to seal a Massillon victory; Isaiah Lamp also hit two key free throws to ice a Bulldog comeback.

Pointwise, Chris Knight led Massillon with 22 points. Xavier Williams scored 16, Terrelle Keys and Jadyce Thigpen scored 9, Isaiah Lamp added 8, Braylon Gamble put up 6, Gio Jackson tacked on 4.

Coming into the game, the Tigers were ranked 74th in the state (MaxPreps) and the Bulldogs were ranked 18th. Both were ranked 8th in their respective divisions.

Freshmen and Junior Varsity also took on the Bulldogs. The frosh beat Canton 58-45; JV fell 65-43.

Buckeyes Win National Championship with a Tiger on Their Staff

Ohio State triumphed over Notre Dame Monday night to claim their 9th national title. They did so with a Tiger alum on their staff– Devin Jordan. Hired in 2022 by Ohio State as an offensive assistant, Jordan has been able to work with some of the best players in college football and is now a national champion.

As a star wide receiver for Massillon in 2001 and 2002 Jordan pulled in 101 catches for 1,504 yards and 18 touchdowns. He is now in both the Tigers’ and the Stark County Hall of Fame.

Lady Tigers Down Stow-Munroe Falls in MLK Classic

The Lady Tigers earned their 12th official win and their 16th on the court with a 65-45 win over Stow-Munroe Falls (6-10) on Monday.

Tigers Visit MAC and BIG 10 Schools on Junior Day

As colleges are ramping up recruiting, a few Massillon defenders were invited by D1 colleges. Senior linebacker Ja’Dyn Williams visited Buffalo, Toledo, and Indiana. Defensive backs Demari Clemons and Lennox Lemon also joined Williams at Buffalo. Tigers’ senior defensive tackle Anthony Neal also visited Toledo.

Tiger Defenders Selected for North-South All-Star Game

As the rosters for April’s North-South All-Star Game are being released, a couple of notable Tiger senior defenders are have been picked to play in the game. Both Mylen Lenix and Daylan Pringle will play one last time at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium in a showcase of Ohio’s talent.
