Massillonians have known the legend of Paul Brown for decades. The Tigers’ program is built on his legacy. In his time with Massillon, Brown won 6 Ohio state titles and 4 national titles. He also won a national championship at the collegiate level with Ohio State before winning 4 AAFC titles and 3 NFL titles with the Cleveland Browns, his namesake. He is the only coach in football history to win national titles on all three levels. Now this legend is receiving the proper recognition for his coaching achievements. The NFL has recognized the 1946-1949 statistics of the AAFC as official NFL statistics. The Cleveland Browns spent those years participating in the AAFC, winning all four titles. What this means for the Browns is that two legends– Tom Brady and Coach Bill Belichick– are now either tied or dethroned by Browns legends. Tom Brady is now no longer the sole owner of the most titles by an NFL quarterback– that honor is now shared with Browns legend Otto Graham. On a another note, Canton McKinley legend Marion Motley is now the all-time leader for yards per carry. The biggest news, however, is that Massillon’s own Paul Brown is now the sole owner of the most title wins in NFL history with 7. This record dethrones New England Patriots legend Bill Belichick, Chicago Bears legend George Halas, and Green Bay Packers legend Curly Lambeau, who each won 6 titles.
